1. RUT (Rol Unico Tributario)

To buy a motorbike you need RUT number. You can get it from Servicio de Impuestos Internos. You have to go the office corresponding to your address (any address where you are stying, even hostel). You will have to fill a form and you will get paper document with your RUT number straight away. It will be valid for 3 months. After about 2 months you will get plastic card with your RUT number. To buy a motorbike paper document is good enough.

2. BUYING MOTORBIKE

Than you have to find your bike. Good place to look is Calle Lira (for motorbikes as well as for spares, tyres, tools...).

We bought our motorbikes from dealer - COMERCIAL APRILA S.A. (www.sanya.cl). We payed 1500 $ US for new Chinese SKYGO 150 GY.

3. REGISTRACION

We had option to leave all registration for dealer (takes 1-2 days, cost around 200$) or to register our bikes on our own (takes 1-2 days, cost 150$). We decided to register motorbikes  ourselfs. We took our papers (Contracto de Compra - Venta de Vehiculo, Certificado de Homologocion, RUT) and started from REGISTRO CIVIL. Over there you will get Solicitud de Primeri Inscripcion and your plates (cost  39.000 Peso).

Next place is MUNICIPALIDAD, but before that you need to buy Seguro Obligatorio (35.000 Peso). We bought it just at the door to Municipalidad. There you will receive Permiso de Circulacion (cost 1.521 Peso).

That is all you need to drive your bike in Chile :)

To leave the country you need PADRON. They will send it to you in about 2 weeks time.

We decided to fasten cases on the sides of our bikes. We were looking in different places and the best offer to make metal forms for our cases (3 bikes for 60.000 Peso) we found here: www.metaljuegos.cl, Augusto Matte 2440-A, Quinta Normal. 

 We decided to buy plastic cases in SUDIMAC. They are made out of thick, strong and waterproof plastic (BAUKER). They cost 21.000 Peso for a small one and 40.000 Peso for a big one.

On Saturday and Sunday you can take a look at PERSA BIO BIO market (Franklin metro station). You can find almost everything there, it is good for cheap, used tools.
